Learn to Drive,Inc. is a professional driving school licensed by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration
to conduct classes in drivers education.
It was started in 1994 by a former police sergeant who had been a driving
instructor for police recruits. In retirement he wanted to try and make the roads safer by teaching an informative class to
young people steering them toward the proper methods and choices they make while driving. He felt that a comfortable, clean,
well equipped classroom would stimulate learning. He also wanted the new drivers to drive cars that they would not mind being
seen in, and that were similar to what was being used by their family. We believe that Learn to Drive has accomplished that
goal. Our classroom uses table seating with separate chairs to make it more comfortable. The classroom is equipped with a
54" television, and an LCD projector with a surround sound sytem for watching the required videos and power point
presentations. All videos shown are those mandated by the MVA. There is a textbook available for each students use.
Maryland Law requires that all new drivers regardless of age, that have never been licensed, attend an approved drivers
education course. The course consists of 30 hours of classroom and six hours of behind the wheel time. A person may attend
drivers education anytime after their 15th birthday, but must wait until they are 15 and 9 months to obtain a learners permit.
Once they obtain a permit, they must log 60 hours of driving time with a licensed adult, over 21 years old, and that has been
licensed for at least 3 years.
