James M. Hutchisson is professor emeritus of American literature and southern studies at The Citadel. He is author of Poe and DuBose Heyward: A Charleston Gentleman and the World of “Porgy and Bess” and editor of Conversations with Paul Auster, all published by University Press of Mississippi.
